Product Overview

The short version

A 384x288 thermal core behind a 35mm lens, a laser rangefinder that reaches past 900 yards, and a ballistic calculator that uses the range it just took.

It weighs 570 grams, roughly two thirds of what the 45mm Riddik weighs, and two rechargeable 18650 batteries ship in the box.

The one you carry

The Lensor sits in the middle of the BA Global Defense lineup and it is the one that makes sense if your rifle spends more time on your shoulder than on a tripod. A 384x288 core at 12 micron pitch with NETD under 25mK, behind a 35mm objective, in an aviation aluminum housing that comes in at 570 grams. The 640x512 Riddik sees more, and it weighs half again as much to do it.

Base magnification is 3.3x, the highest of the three scopes, with 2x, 4x and 8x digital on top of that. The field is 7.5 by 5.7 degrees, which is the trade you make for the reach. It is a scope for working a known lane or a feeder, less so for sweeping a whole pasture from the truck.

Laser rangefinder

Built into the housing and good past 900 yards. Range and hold without dropping off the rifle to find a handheld unit in the dark.

Ballistic calculator

Takes the distance the scope just measured and returns the hold. The correction happens on the display instead of on a dope card by red light.

Two batteries in the box

Two rechargeable 18650 cells, up to 7 hours each, with the charger included. It also runs off an external pack over the USB-C port.

Records and streams

Onboard video and audio recording plus Wi-Fi to the BA Global Defense Connect app on iOS and Android for a live view and remote settings.

Reticles, palettes and calibration

Eight reticle styles in five selectable colors, and six palettes: white hot, black hot, red hot, green hot, fusion and iron red. Calibration runs three ways, shutter, scene or fully automatic, so you can leave it alone or take it over depending on how much the image is drifting. Picture-in-picture holds a magnified window above the wide field, which is how you keep track of an animal once you are zoomed to 4x or 8x.

Where it sits in the lineup

The Lensor is the reach-and-carry option. If you want a bigger sensor and you are shooting from a stand or a tripod where the extra pound does not matter, the Riddik 640 is the one. If you mostly need to find animals rather than shoot at them, put the money in a handheld thermal monocular instead. The thermal scope buyer's guide lays out how the sensor sizes actually compare in the field.

Questions people actually ask

How does 384x288 compare to a 640 core?

A 640x512 core carries three times the pixels, so it holds detail further out and lets you push digital zoom harder before the image turns to mush. Inside a couple hundred yards, which is where most hog and predator shots happen, a 384 with a good lens and a low NETD gives you a clean picture and saves you weight and money. The 35mm lens here does a lot of the work.

How far will the rangefinder read?

Past 900 yards, which is well beyond any range you should be shooting at an animal in the dark. In practice it means you get a fast, confident number at 150 yards instead of guessing.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 7 hours on one 18650, and two rechargeable cells and a charger come in the box, so a full night sit is covered. It will also run off an external power pack over USB-C if you would rather not swap.

Does it record and connect to my phone?

Yes to both. Onboard video and audio recording, plus Wi-Fi to the BA Global Defense Connect app for iOS and Android for a live view, remote settings, and saving footage to your phone.

What is the ballistic calculator for?

It takes the distance the rangefinder just measured and works out your holdover, so the correction shows up on the display instead of happening in your head with a hog walking away from you.

Can I use it during the day?

Yes. Thermal reads heat rather than light, so daylight is fine and haze or light rain often makes it better than glass. We wrote up the details on using a thermal scope during the day.
