Sling Stud Bipods

If your rifle has a sling swivel stud under the forend and no rail, this is where your bipod is. Sling stud bipods clamp to that factory stud in seconds and give you a new one to hang the sling from. There is nothing to drill and no rail to add.

Which rifles use a sling stud bipod

Nearly every factory bolt-action hunting rifle ships with a front sling swivel stud, including the budget and mid-priced rifles most deer hunters carry. Many single shots, muzzleloaders and some semi-autos have one as well. If you can thread a QD sling swivel into it, a sling stud bipod will fit it.

How they attach

The bipod's clamp hooks over the stud and tightens with a thumbwheel or knob, pulling the base snug against the underside of the stock. The base carries its own stud, so your sling moves to the bipod. Most install or come off in under a minute without tools.

Check the underside of your forend before buying. A stock with a sharply curved or narrow forend, or a stud sitting very close to the tip, can limit which bases sit flat.

Heights and styles

Sling stud bipods come in every common height, from 6 to 9 inch prone models to sitting-height legs. Fixed bases are lightest. Swivel bases let the rifle cant on uneven ground and are the more useful choice for most hunting.

Quick-detach sling stud bipods

Some designs leave a small adapter on the stud and let the bipod click on and off. You can carry the rifle clean through thick cover and add the bipod only when you set up.

Sling stud bipod FAQs

Can I still use my sling with a bipod on the stud?

Yes. Sling stud bipods include a stud on the bipod base so the sling attaches there.

Will a sling stud bipod damage my stock?

Not when it is tightened correctly. A bit of rubber or tape on the base can protect a nice wood stock from scuffs.

What if my rifle has two front studs?

Use the rear one for the sling and mount the bipod on the front one. Many hunters add a second stud for exactly this reason.
