Chronographs
Our shooting chronograph shelf is one unit deep, and it is a good one: the Athlon Rangecraft radar chronograph. It sits beside you on the bench and reads velocity by Doppler radar, so nothing attaches to the barrel and nothing sits downrange to get shot. Athlon rates it from 65 to 5,000 FPS.

Why a radar shooting chronograph
Older optical chronographs make you shoot through a pair of sensors set out in front of the muzzle. A radar unit tracks the projectile instead. Athlon says the Rangecraft needs no firearm mounting, leaves barrel harmonics and point of impact alone, and reads through suppressors, muzzle brakes and compensators. The listing also covers an IP67 waterproof rating, a rechargeable battery and a 2.4-inch display. Set it beside the rifle, point it downrange and shoot a string; there is no skyscreen to line up.
Real velocity numbers are what make a ballistic solution match your riflescope turret at distance. Pair the chronograph with a rangefinder and confirm the drop on steel targets. Athlon lists airguns and archery among its uses too, which makes it handy for checking airgun pellets or hunting arrows, and it pairs with scope mounts and rings work when you are building a rifle from scratch.
Shooting Chronograph FAQs
Does the Rangecraft work with a suppressor?
Athlon lists compatibility with suppressors, muzzle brakes and compensators, since the unit tracks the projectile by radar instead of reacting to muzzle blast.
Can I use it for archery or airguns?
Yes. Athlon's measurement range starts at 65 FPS and the listing names firearms, airguns and archery equipment as uses.
