Tripods
A shooting tripod gives you a steady rest where a bench or prone position is not available. This shelf holds two Athlon pieces: the Midas tripod, sold in several leg sizes with a bowl mount or ball head, and the Midas tripod saddle that clamps a rifle to any Arca-style top. Buy the tripod first, then add the saddle.

Choosing a shooting tripod
Leg diameter is the main choice on the Midas. Athlon offers it in several leg sizes, and per the maker, larger legs bring more stability and a higher maximum load. The top comes with either a bowl mount or a ball head; Athlon lists the ball head with friction control, fluid pan control, a ball lock and Arca compatibility for mounting a rifle directly. Athlon also pitches it as a support for spotting optics, so one tripod can hold a spotting scope for glassing and a rifle for the shot. Pair it with binoculars for the first look.
The Midas Tripod Saddle fits Arca-style mounts and clamps stocks from 1.1 to 2.6 inches, with pads on the sides and bottom. Athlon lists it at 3.5 oz, so it adds almost nothing to a pack. For prone or bench work, a precision bipod is still the simpler tool, and good riflescopes and rangefinders round out a field setup.
Shooting Tripod FAQs
Do I need the saddle to shoot off the Midas tripod?
The tripod ships with a bowl mount or ball head that can support a rifle. The saddle adds a clamp so the rifle stays put while you adjust or move between shots.
Will the Midas saddle fit other tripods?
Athlon says it works with any tripod system that uses an Arca-style mount. Check your tripod head before ordering.
