Tether vs. Lineman Rope
The two ropes do different jobs. The tree tether connects your saddle to the tree while you hunt. The lineman rope wraps the tree while you climb and set up, so you stay connected at every step. Most saddle hunters carry both and keep spares on hand.
Ropes wear. Check them for cuts, glazing and fraying before every hunt, follow the manufacturer service life and replace anything that looks wrong. A rope is also the first piece most hunters replace on a used saddle kit.
