Saddle mounts, no gunsmithing
Aimtech saddle mounts straddle the receiver and install with no gunsmithing, a good option if your shotgun is not drilled and tapped. They are made for specific guns and gauges, including the Mossberg 500/590, Remington 870 and 1100/11-87 and Benelli Super Black Eagle. Aimtech's Warhammer rail mounts add a Picatinny rail, with an M-LOK version for the Mossberg 500.
Red dot mounts for turkey guns
A red dot is fast on a gobbler and does not need perfect head position. Talley's RMR and RMSc red dot mounts fit the Benelli Super Black Eagle, Beretta A400, Remington 870, Mossberg shotguns and the Winchester SXP and SX2/SX3/SX4. Talley's Micro Picatinny bases cover the same guns if you want a short rail. Warne's shotgun rib reflex mount attaches to the rib.
Receiver bases
For a scope on a slug gun or a full-length rail, EGW and Weaver make bases that screw to the receiver for the Mossberg 500, 590, 835 and 930, Remington 870 and 1100/11-87, Benelli Nova, Super Nova and SBE, and Stevens 320. Beretta and Winchester also make factory bases for the 1301 Comp/A400 Xtreme Plus and the SX and SXP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I mount a red dot on a Mossberg 500?
Use a Talley RMR mount for Mossberg shotguns, a Picatinny base from EGW or Weaver, an Aimtech saddle mount, or the TruGlo adapter for Mossberg. Check the model and gauge in the product name.
Do I need a gunsmith to scope a shotgun?
Not with a saddle mount. Aimtech saddle mounts need no gunsmithing. Receiver bases need your gun to be drilled and tapped.
Which mount is best for a turkey gun?
Most hunters run a small red dot on a dedicated mount like Talley's. Pair it with a turkey choke tube and pattern them together.
