Goose Calls
Goose calls here cover three birds. For Canadas, Power Calls short reeds run from the Current, Surge and Ion up to Carbon and CTi builds of the Frequency, Wavelength and Gravity. Specklebelly hunters get the Spark and Strike, and snow goose hunters get the Clash plus a Haydel's snow call. Haydel's also offers Canada calls at the entry end.

Short Reed Canada Goose Calls
A short reed goose call makes every sound with your air and hand, from a clucking feed to a long-range hail. That flexibility is why it dominates field hunting, and why it takes practice. If you are new, start with one of the lower-priced Power Calls short reeds (Current, Surge or Ion) and spend the summer learning the basic honk and cluck. Moving to the Frequency, Wavelength or Gravity later means a call that suits your air better.
Canada goose calling works best alongside a well-placed spread of goose decoys. Birds that see 30 full-bodies in a feeding pattern need less convincing than birds working over a handful of shells.
| Bird | Calls on this shelf |
|---|---|
| Canada goose | Power Calls Current, Surge, Ion, Frequency, Wavelength, Gravity; Haydel's Canada goose calls |
| Specklebelly | Power Calls Spark (standard and African Blackwood), Strike |
| Snow goose | Power Calls Clash; Haydel's snow goose call |
Specklebelly and Snow Goose Calls
Specks have a laughing, rolling yodel that a Canada call can only approximate. A dedicated speck call like the Spark or Strike makes it far easier. Snow geese are louder and busier, and many snow hunters run electronic callers where they are legal, then use a hand call to add realism. Check your state wildlife agency for what is allowed in your season. Lots of silhouette decoys help with the numbers snow spreads need.
Standard, Carbon or CTi
Power Calls sells the Frequency, Wavelength and Gravity in more than one build: standard, Carbon and CTi listings sit next to each other, and the Frequency also comes in African Blackwood. The build changes the tone and the price. Pick a model first, then the build. Hang it on one of our call lanyards with your duck calls if you hunt mixed bags.
Calling Over a Field Spread
Geese decide fast in a field. Call hard at distance to turn them, then back off as they set up, and let the spread finish the job. A few motion decoys or flags give the birds something to lock onto while you stay hidden in a layout brushed with blind grass or local stubble.
Goose calling is a cold-weather job, so keep a muff from our hand warmers shelf on your waist and the call under your coat between flocks. When the birds commit, tight waterfowl choke tubes matched to your load make the most of the shot.
Goose Calls FAQs
Are short reed goose calls hard to learn?
They take more practice than a flute call, mostly in learning to break the note with your tongue and hand. Most hunters can make basic honks and clucks after a few weeks of steady practice.
Can one goose call cover Canadas and specks?
A good Canada caller can make some speck sounds on a short reed, but a speck call is much easier for the laugh and yodel. If you see specks often, add a dedicated call.
Which goose call should I buy first?
One of the lower-priced Power Calls short reeds, such as the Current, Surge or Ion. Upgrade to a Frequency, Wavelength or Gravity once you know how you like a call to run.
