Bags & Storage
Short version: a blind bag carries shells, calls and small gear to the hide, and a decoy bag carries the spread. This shelf has both, plus a wader bag, a game tote and an ammo pouch. Hunt water and you want a floating or backpack blind bag. For decoys, slotted bags give each one its own pocket, and mesh bags let a wet spread drain.

Choosing a Blind Bag
A blind bag earns its keep by keeping things findable at legal light. The Alps Outdoorz and Ducks Unlimited lineups here split four ways. Floating blind bags (standard and deluxe) are the pick for boats and deep marsh, where a bag knocked overboard should come back up. Pit blind bags suit a fixed spot where the bag sits on a shelf all morning. Backpack blind bags carry on your shoulders, which matters when the walk in is long and your hands are full of decoys. The Guardian blind bag comes in more than one option, so check the listing.
Higdon's Bottomland Blind Bag and the Ducks Unlimited Wing-Shooter round out the shelf. Whatever you choose, it should hold your shells, a call lanyard, a headlamp and a thermos without a game of Tetris. Pack your duck calls where you can reach them without looking.
| If you hunt | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| From a boat or deep marsh | Floating blind bags | A bag that goes over the side should float |
| A long walk in | Backpack blind bags | Frees your hands for decoys and the gun |
| A permanent pit or box blind | Pit blind bags | Built to sit in one spot all morning |
| Fields with a big spread | X-Slot and goose decoy bags | One pocket per decoy for the carry |
Decoy Bags: Slots or Mesh
Slotted bags give each decoy a pocket. Higdon sells them by count: a 4-slot motion decoy bag, 6-slot and 12-slot duck decoy bags, and X-Slot universal bags for decoys, motion units and geese. They pack tight and come out of the bag the same way they went in, which matters with expensive spinning wing decoys.
Mesh bags (small, large and the Stand Alone) are faster for floaters. Wet decoys go straight in and drain on the walk out. If your water spread is tangled every morning, the bag is rarely the fix; good decoy rigging is. The Higdon FLATS bag is built for silhouettes, which stack flat.
Wader Bags, Totes and Shell Pouches
Wet waders in the truck bed are a rite of passage nobody needs twice. The Ducks Unlimited Wader Bag gives them a place to ride home. The Guardian Ammo Pouch carries shells for days you leave the big bag in the blind, and the Metal Loop Game Tote hauls birds out. The Deluxe Dove Belt is here for September, when the same shells go after doves over dove decoys.
For non-waterfowl hauling, our hunting backpacks cover upland and big-game trips, and a pair of waterfowl choke tubes fits in any of the pouches above.
Blind Bag FAQs
What is the difference between a blind bag and a backpack?
A blind bag opens wide at the top so you can dig for shells and calls while sitting in a blind. A backpack blind bag adds shoulder straps for the walk in but keeps that open layout. A regular hunting pack is organized for a hike, which makes it slow to work out of at shooting time.
Should a blind bag float?
If you hunt from a boat or in water deeper than your knees, yes. Floating models are listed by name on this shelf. For a field hunt or a dry pit, it matters less.
How many decoys fit in a slotted decoy bag?
The number in the name is the slot count, one decoy per slot. Decoy size varies a lot, so check the listing for which decoys a bag is sized for before you buy.
Mesh or slotted decoy bags?
Mesh is faster and drains water, which suits floaters. Slotted bags protect motion decoys and full-bodies and keep them organized. Plenty of hunters own one of each.
