Base, rings, or both
Most scoped rifles need two parts: a base that screws to the receiver and rings that clamp the scope to the base. The base is specific to your gun and action length. The rings are specific to your scope's tube diameter. One-piece mounts and ring/base combos, like Talley's and DNZ's Game Reaper, put both jobs in one part made for one rifle. If you are buying separately, buy the base for your gun first, then rings that fit it.
Picatinny and Weaver
Most bases here are Picatinny or Weaver style. Picatinny rings fit Picatinny rails, and Weaver-style rings generally fit both, but Picatinny rings may not fit the narrower slots on a Weaver base. Every base name says which it is.
Ring height
Rings come in low, medium, high and extra high. The right height clears your scope's objective bell and lets your cheek rest naturally on the stock with your eye centered behind the scope. Bigger objectives need taller rings. If you are between heights, the lowest one that clears the barrel and bolt handle is usually the most comfortable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which scope base fits my rifle?
Search or browse by your exact model and action length. Each base here names the rifles it fits, including short or long action where it matters.
What size scope rings do I need?
Match the ring to your scope's main tube: 1 inch, 30mm, 34mm, 35mm or 36mm. It is printed in your scope's specs and never changes, whatever the magnification.
Do I need a 20 MOA base?
Only if you plan to dial for long range and want more elevation travel. For most hunting setups a 0 MOA base is the simple choice.
