Frame Packs: Bag, Frame or Both
Several ALPS frame packs are sold three ways. The pack bag alone, the frame alone, and the two together as a combo (listed as "Pack + Frame" or "+ Pack"). If you already own the frame, the bag is the cheaper route to a second setup, one sized for day hunts and one for longer trips. Check the product page to confirm which frame a bag is built for before mixing them. A frame pack earns its weight the first time you haul quarters out of a bottom you should not have walked into, and the right skinning knives belong in the lid pocket for that trip.
Day Packs and Stand Packs
A day pack for whitetail hunting should hold a puffy, a thermos and a rangefinder without a fight, and open quietly. Tenzing's Hangtime is a 1,600 cubic inch tree stand pack, and Allen's Altitude Bino Pack adds a rangefinder pouch next to the binoculars. For hydration, the ALPS Reservoir 3.0 is a 3-liter bladder designed to pair with ALPS packs; it lives on the accessories shelf. Glass from the stand with hunting rangefinders and binoculars stowed where a hand finds them without looking.
Turkey, Dove and Waterfowl Bags
Some packs here are built for one game bird. The Allen Shocker is a turkey pack that wears as a sling, chest, waist or hip pack, with a magnetic front flap for quiet access. The Higdon X-Slot is a carry bag for hard-body turkey decoys. Both sit nicely beside a turkey call collection. The Deluxe Dove Belt and Sportsman's Belt keep shells and birds on the hip for a field hunt over dove decoys. Duck hunters get the Ducks Unlimited Floating Blind Bag, whose main compartment is closed-cell foam sealed with a waterproof membrane, and the High Caliber and Refuge duffles handle the truck-to-camp leg.
Hunting Backpack FAQs
What size hunting backpack do I need?
Size it for your longest regular hunt. Stand hunters on short walks do fine with a waist or small day pack. Anyone who hikes in far, or plans to carry meat out, should look at a frame pack.
Can I buy the pack bag and frame separately?
Yes, for several ALPS models. Each is listed on its own, and a combo listing bundles both. Confirm frame compatibility on the product page.
Is a sling pack good for hunting?
It suits short hunts where you want to swing the pack to your chest for a call or a snack without taking it off. For heavy loads, two shoulder straps carry better.
Do you carry hunting packs in camo patterns?
Yes. Patterns on this shelf include Realtree, Mossy Oak Original Bottomland, Edge and Max-7, plus solids like Coyote Brown and Stone Gray.
