Boating
Our boating accessories shelf is about one thing right now: keeping gear dry on the water. Red Rock roll-top dry bags run from 1 to 25 liters in black or OD green, the MOmarsh Element WaterBox floats when loaded, and Ducks Unlimited Guardian dry bags come in duffel and backpack styles. Pick the size by what has to stay dry.

Sizing a Dry Bag
| Size | Typical load |
|---|---|
| 1 to 4 liters | Phone, keys, wallet, license, a headlamp |
| 8 to 13 liters | A spare layer, gloves, first aid, snacks |
| 25 liters and up | Rain jacket, a change of clothes, a day of gear |
Most boaters end up with two: a small bag that stays in reach for the phone and keys, and a big one that rides under a seat. The Red Rock bags come in five sizes, so it is easy to build that pair from one line. Pack the small one with a headlamp for the ride back in the dark.
Roll-Top Dry Bags vs a Floating Box
Roll-top dry bags seal by rolling the top down several times before you close it. They pack flat when empty and squeeze into odd corners of a hull. The Ducks Unlimited Guardian Dry Bag and Guardian Backpack Dry Bag use that same roll-top design; the backpack version frees your hands on the walk to the ramp. The MOmarsh Element WaterBox takes a different approach: 25 liters behind an IPX-rated zipper, with buoyant foam sealed into the walls so it floats loaded, customizable dividers inside and reflective strips that help you find it in a dark boat.
Packing a Dry Bag So It Stays Dry
A roll-top only seals if there is room to roll it. Leave a hand's width of empty bag at the top, press the air out, then roll tight before closing. Heavy, hard items go in first so they do not wear through the corners of softer gear. Keep wet waders and decoy bags out of the dry bag entirely; a damp jacket inside defeats the purpose. After a trip, open the bag and let it dry before storing it, especially after brackish water. Label bags by size or color so the phone bag never gets confused with the spare-socks bag at 5 a.m.
Dry Storage for Duck Boats and Bowfishing
A duck boat at 5 a.m. is a wet place. Shells, calls, a phone and a dry pair of gloves all need a sealed home, and a blind bag alone may not cut it if the boat takes spray. Put the electronics in a dry bag, keep hand warmers in a pocket, and stow guns in gun cases for the boat ride. Bowfishing crews running at night deal with the same water, so the small dry bags earn their keep there too. Seating lives on another shelf: the Cast-N-Blast boat seat is with our hunting chairs.
