What to compare
- Sensor resolution. A 384 or 640 core resolves detail a 256 core never captured. Display resolution is a separate number and a sharp screen cannot invent detail the sensor missed.
- Field of view. Lower base magnification means a wider view, which is what makes a monocular fast to scan with. Digital zoom crops the image and adds nothing.
- NETD. Thermal sensitivity in millikelvin, lower being better. It earns its money in humidity, rain and fog when heat contrast goes flat.
- Battery and recording. Long sits eat batteries. Onboard recording is worth having if you scout the same ground repeatedly.
