How far can the P-Mini 250S detect?
Up to roughly 550 yards for a large heat source like a hog or a person against a cool background. Keep in mind that detection means spotting that something warm is out there, not identifying what it is.
What is the difference between detection, recognition, and identification range?
Detection is "there is a heat signature out there." Recognition is "that is an animal, not a fence post." Identification is "that is a coyote, not a deer." Each step requires the target to be closer, so a 550-yard detection number does not mean you will positively identify an animal at 550 yards. It is the honest way to read any thermal spec.
Can I use it during the day, or only at night?
Both. Thermal reads heat, not light, so it works in total darkness, bright daylight, and everything in between. It can be a genuinely useful daytime tool for spotting bedded animals in cover your eyes would walk right past.
Is this a thermal scope or a handheld monocular? Can I mount it on my rifle?

Is a 256x192 sensor good enough?
For a compact, pocketable unit at this price, yes. The 256x192 thermal sensor paired with a 12-micron pixel pitch is the sweet spot for scouting and short-to-mid-range scanning. Higher-resolution sensors exist, but they come in larger, far more expensive units. For the job this device is built for, the image is crisp and clean.
What does NETD 30mK mean, and why should I care?
NETD measures how small a temperature difference the sensor can pick up, and lower is better. At 30mK or less, the P-Mini distinguishes subtle heat differences, which means more contrast and detail: a deer separating cleanly from the brush behind it instead of blending into a warm blob. It is one of the specs that actually matters for image quality.
What magnification does it have? Can it zoom?
It offers 1-4x magnification through a 10mm F1.0 objective, with a 13.1 by 13.1 degree field of view, unlimited eye relief, and a 1.43-inch OLED touchscreen. Start wide to scan a field or tree line fast, then zoom in once you have spotted something.
How long does the battery last, and is it rechargeable?

How big and heavy is it? Will it really fit in a pocket?

Can thermal see through walls, glass, or fog?
Through walls, no, that is a movie myth; thermal reads surface heat, not what is behind solid objects. Through glass, also no, glass blocks thermal, so you cannot scan through a windshield or window. Through fog, smoke, and light brush, better than your naked eye or night vision, because heat cuts through obscurants that block visible light. It is one of thermal's real advantages.
Is it waterproof and tough enough for real hunting conditions?
Yes. It carries an IP66 waterproof rating and is both fog proof and shockproof, built to shrug off rain, dust, and the knocks of field use. It operates from -4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, so it holds up from cold winter sits to hot summer hog hunts.
Thermal vs. night vision: which is better?
They solve different problems. Night vision amplifies existing light and shows a familiar-looking scene, but it needs some ambient light and can be fooled by camouflage and cover.
