Duck Decoys
Ducks commit to a spread that looks like ducks doing something. Paint quality and body posture do most of the work on a calm morning, and motion does the rest when the water goes flat and birds start flaring at the edges.

Building a spread that works
- Start with floaters. A dozen realistic mallards outworks three dozen flat ones. The TopFlight Flocked Black Ducks add a contrasting silhouette that pulls birds looking for something other than green heads.
- Add motion. Flat water kills a spread. The Avian-X Power Swimmer puts a working ripple through the blocks without the flash of spinning wings.

Early season versus late
September teal and early mallards decoy to small, tight spreads. By December those same birds have seen every trick in the flyway and want space, realistic paint, and a landing hole they can read from 200 yards. Most hunters run too many decoys and not enough gaps.
